Interscholastic Sports

  • Thank you for participating in our WHMS Interscholastic Sports program. We greatly appreciate the important role you are about to embark on by supporting our students and their love of sports. Not only does it encourage physical activity, but for many students, it also builds self-esteem, motivates them to do better in academics, teaches social skills, teaches them how to work as a team, patience, and discipline. It helps build a well-rounded person. All sports are co-ed unless specified.

    Fall Sports:

    Girls Volleyball- All grade levels. Begins in the middle of September

    Cross Country- Begins in the middle of September

    Mt. Biking Club- Begins Aug 28th. 

    Join us every Wednesday after school. We meet at the flagpole in the 6th-grade quad, ready to ride at 2:30 and return by 5:00ish.  With an emphasis on teamwork, confidence building, and bike handling. You'll know how much fun they had by how much dirt they bring home and how well they sleep at night. You'll wish you could come along too! If you are inclined, we also need parent volunteers who are stoked to ride bikes with kids. The club is led by Hannah Childress, who is certified by the National Interscholastic Cycling Association as a Level 3 Coach. 

    Winter Sports:

    Boys Basketball: All grade levels. It begins the week before Fall Break. The games will start the first week after Winter Break in January.

    Girls Basketball: All grade levels. It begins the week before Fall Break. The games will start the first week after Winter Break in January.  

     

    Spring Sports:

    Wrestling

    Wrestling will start in the 3rd week of March. Practices will be three days a week: TBD and will start right after school in the gym. After school, there will be a wrestling meeting in the Library on March 14th. The WH wrestling team is co-ed, so anyone interested should sign up.

    Track and Field

    The first practice will be the week of March 18th. There will be two practices a week. One practice will be on practice is on Monday at 5:30. The 2nd practice will be Fridays and starts at 3:30. Both practices will be held at Archie Williams.

    Golf

    Coach Ken Coren is excited about coaching the WH Golf team again this year. Practices will start in February.

    The purpose of this league is not to introduce students to golf for the first time but to add the element of competition for students who have already learned and practiced the fundamentals of the game.  The team needs a minimum of four players and a maximum of eight.

    Most matches and most practice sessions will occur at McInnis Park Golf Center.

    Soccer Club

    Soccer Club will start in March 19th. Coach Craig will meet the students on the field on Tuesday and Thursday at 3:30. No experience is needed. Students will be learning and developing their soccer skills.  

    Boys Volleyball

    Practices start on Monday, March 11th and games will begin on March 26th. Practices will be on Mondays from 3:30-5pm and Wednesdays from 2:30-4pm.  Games will be on Wednesdays at 4pm. It’s going to be a fun season!
